SOME ADVICE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE..........

There will come a time in your life when you ask a respected person for advise. Don’t be surprised if you are often told that:

“It isn’t possible” or

“You don’t have the skills or ability to do that”.

Before you decide to give up and pack it all in, I want to tell you a true story....

In the early 1900’s a Bishop the United Brethren Church in New Orleans was asked what he thought of man’s (then) attempts to achieve powered flight. His firm reply was “If men were meant to fly God would have given them wings.”

Within four years two men, the Wright brothers, achieved powered flight.

The bishop’s name - Milton Wright - father or Wilbur and Orville Wright. If the Wright brothers had taken their father’s advice, would they have been the pioneers we know of today?

So. when you get a negative reply, don’t blame the person giving it. They’re only using their own, often limited, experiences as a guide for what is and isn’t achievable. If they don’t have experience in the area you asked for advice on, don’t expect a positive answer.

We encourage you to seek out someone who does have experience in the subject you want answers for. Your reply maybe totally different.

We also encourage you to read, read, read and read some more. Read anything and read everything. You never know when what you are reading may become useful and can be applied.

However, don’t expect to succeed without furthering your education. The 12 years or so you spent at school, as hard and as boring it was, was really there only to give you a taste of what you could achieve. Now you have the opportunity to focus your tertiary education in an area you are interested in.

Remember - Today is the first day of the rest of your life. As corny as it sounds, it is true.
